By mr.buttons I tried other slide scanners before purchasing the Ion PICS2PC and returned them all for one reason or another, especially poor software performance. This is the best scanner I have tried and I am keeping it. I already converted 50 slides the first day and the results are satisfactory. I am, however, disappointed in one thing: the slide tray, which accepts 3 slides, has a lock which is hard to open. I feel I am wasting a lot of time trying to open it while loading and unloading the slides. I have thousands of slides to convert and this will cause the longest delay in the process. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium and the software is working very well, the best I have tried. I have not yet used the trays for the slide film or three photo trays. I believe the all have the same locking feature. I may try to purchase an extra slide tray from Ion, depending on the price, and have my wife load and unload slides while I am scanning This should help speed up the process. Otherwise, Ion did a nice job designing this scanner. 13 of 14 people found the following review helpful. ION Slide Scanner - No Way!! By gypsy I purchased the ION PICS2PC scanner to primarily scan slides. It is a dismal failure for several reasons. The holders for slides and negatives are hard to open and clumsy. It scans slides, but they are overly bright with a bright spot in the center of the slide. I have been on line with the ION customer support for over an hour and am giving up. If you want to scan photos, it work OK for that. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Review of PICS2PC scanner By Ken The good news is that the product is significantly faster than a flat bed scanner. The bad news is that the picture quality is poor to mediocre. Images lack sharpness and colors are faded or wrong. Dark details are lost The product was very easy to set up and use although some of the menus concerning where to store files were confusing. It would be a great product if the images were sharp and correct. I have given up trying to use it. I am back to using my HP flatbed scanner to scan in several thousand images -- a slow process but the quality is superb. See all 6 customer reviews....
