For BBS, Bay Area, CA I installed this hardware on a new computer with Win'XP, so I had nothing that had to be removed. I chose the default installation does not, because I do not want the HP software, photo editing (I have Adobe Photoshop Elements and Photoshop Album) and have no use for the IRIS software to scanned documents into text files. The installation went well and my 35 mm slides, documents and tests were successful the first time. 35 mm slides scanned and can be assembled or disassembled. The scanner looks very simple to use and is a vast improvement over ten years of the scanner it replaces. Everything about the appearance of the scanner provides a high quality and so far I am very happy. The documentation that comes with the scanner is very limited, sufficient to install, but does not set the scan settings - you must go to the help files for 55 of 55 people found this review helpful. Very capable with a software design project Boogaloo curious - about 800 + slides convert to digital family. Having 100 to a photo lab ($ 70!-Ouch!), I stumbled across flat now has a 35-mm slide scanner (and film) and decided to try this with HP. I am satisfied with the outcome. **** 4.5 stars for features, pull the material after the software control. It is very capable, very satisfactory results. Slipping *** 2.5 stars for the software, both very capable and very boring. Basic features of flat-bed very well. Ten stars ********** To scan PRINTS! It is impossible to tell the difference between an original and scanning at 600 dpi. Slide Project - Despite the volume, the capacity of five slides well, with very similar results to a lab is about an hour to scan slides 25-30 of 600 dpi with a base color may be improvements, including a function of 6 colors. The default value of 300 dpi scanning is faster, but takes 45 min. 1200 + dpi forget ... they turn old and gray Scan five images with slightly better results. The major overhead is the introduction / removal of slides and corrections selection of images. When finished, it takes about 1 min. a sheet of 600 dpi. The software is a curious and awkward mixture of high capacity and limitations. While the previous exploration early attempts to locate the separate image, the screen is too small to be useful waayy, though only through the choice of each discrete image for larger preview scan. Oooofff ... long. Why not enhance the first preview? The pre-scan features regular food crop, brightness, contrast and correction are skillful and discreetly selected for each slide, but most of these functions at a post-scan of the file you have just worked all this is why the preview is too small may irritate some finiky for the best results. I discovered it was more efficient to use other software for scanning images to the final crop, JPEG compression and set a gritty performance. Scanning Kodachrome slides of all ages beautifully. "Adaptive Lighting" Pre-scan corrects both general exposure, while 'Restore faded colors "makes a lot of work to include removal of color infrared Ektachrome. The photo lab has not done it! Not only do you get a single file for each slide that can do the same with several documents. Anything can fit on the bed of glass can be selected for individual files in a single scan with a large set of available file formats to include direct-to-PDF. Conclusion: This is definitely a better way to get you quality control over a large group of photos Practice with the software and then enjoy the "Oldies but Goodies". I have written test scans with the tag "Boogaloo Review", the software screen shots to take. 53 of 55 people found the following review helpful. installation instructions by Lee Anderson insufficient product works great.
