Most Helpful Customer Reviews 609 of 613 people found the following review helpful. It does the job, but ... J. Peterson, I bought this scanner a month ago, several thousand slides I've taken in recent years to scan. I am not a professional photographer - my expectations were just to digitize my slides at the same quality as the photos I've taken with my 7MP digital camera. Upon receipt of the scanner (up slightly) I have a wide range of tests to determine the appropriate settings (resolution, compression, etc.) and then I started to scan my slides. Now that I have 2 / 3 with the job I would say that it can work OK'm done, but there are goods and bads. I have no experience with other film scanner, so I can not tell you how this unit compares with others, but here is what I've learned: * Many have complained about the lack of plastic slide holder. I held up well so far, but I can find nothing about how I could get a replacement like I broke with the scanner, which worries me a little * Epson is not very useful. They have a simple FAQ with some basic things, but nothing really useful, not discussion. You're on your own. * As noted above, the software is fairly basic, but I think it gets the job done. Has at least two annoying flaws, however. One is that every time I preview a set of 12 slides off, the removal of dust and / or screening digital ICE. This means that you should remember to turn it on again for each scan, which I sometimes forgot to do. There seems to be a way to save your settings, but even that is reset on each scan, so it's useless. Perhaps there is a way around this to work, but the few tracks not produce documentation. * Another software problem is the possibility of vertical or horizontal orientation of the slides can be recognized usually does a great job with this, but sometimes guesses wrong, for example, it will consider an image vertically when in fact it is horizontal. Usually happens when the image is a dark background. Unfortunately, if the wrong guesses the crop on the sides or top / bottom of the image, so you can not just turn 90 degrees. Most of the time when I was a wrong message think I could solve this by rotating the image 90 degrees and re-preview, but I have some pictures that simply calls for the error and the software provides no way to ignore this behavior. A related bad behavior occurs when an image of a bright rectangle on a dark background, like a picture on the TV screen - in which case it tries to zoom in on a portion of the image, pruning much of what even some of the light field. I have no way to defeat this behavior, so apparently the only cure is the harvest of this type of image manually, which will be very difficult * Another problem is a hardware design fault I am very surprised that nobody has mentioned. After my first batch scan multiple slides and carefully examine the results, I went for a scan mode, without taking time to explore each resulting image. After scanning a lot of slides, I began to review the results and was horrified to note that in some areas, there were two faint vertical lines (one green, one blue) to the exploration right. I realized eventually that the lines seemed to be on four consecutive pages of every 12 (slide holder contains 12 slides), so it was a clue. Note that the top of the scanner has a transparent opening in the middle - apparently, this is an attractive feature so you can see the scanner light and its movement. Well, he gives a different light in the scanner, at least under certain conditions of ambient light, the scans of the four wings of ruin in the middle column, I fixed this by saving a piece of cardboard on top of the scanner. And now I've confused a lot of pictures to scan again. I * really.
