After much research I was lucky enough to find a photo scanner, at the same time, the Epson Perfection V500 is now available. After scanning the first batch of 60 slides, I can heartily recommend this unit. The most important capabilities of this unit, especially for the price, the technology is integrated ICE scratch and dust removal. E ', in a word, amazing. And, I saved many hours of extra work to do the same job manually. There are zero-based software and Epson software included in the dust, but it is inefficient and can not compare with the ice. I'm scanning at 2400 dpi, more than enough resolution for practical use other than heavy cropping and enlargement. I use compressed air to "clean" the slides before scanning. When scanning with ICE turned off, the amount of dust marks are amazing. Turn on ICE and 98% of the dust is gone, it takes longer to scan the ice, but the offset is time saved not having to manually remove many times the dust after scanning. Photoshop Elements 4.0 included. I use Elements 6.0. So far the unit has functioned flawlessly. Software installed clean on the first try. Front panel buttons can be reprogrammed for other than standard (for example, I changed the button to e-mail attachment to start the OCR software that accompanies the text.) A tip for those who buy this unit for slide and / or scan film scanning with ICE and 2-4 slides at a time: Click the "All" in the preview window after pre-scanning (preview), to select all slides slide, and then click the checkbox for ICE to ensure that all of the slides processed by ice. You will not find this in documentation or on the Epson website. I spent time trying to figure out why all four slides are not processed by ICE (I thought the unit was defective at first because only the first image, which is selected by default, was being processed by ICE), so you know, but to spend the time I had to use the scanner for photos and documents and articles have been converted to editable text, all seamlessly and with excellent results. Maher just bought this scanner - primarily to scan my 1000 + pictures. At first I was a little hesitant, because this model is new to the market and was concerned about the crazy errors. But I know that Epson provides a good product, so I took the chance. And I'm glad I did. It has some outstanding features: 1. Very easy to configure and use. I took my first photo within 30 minutes to open the package. No problems with software and online user guide is easy to follow the second Very fast scanning. The scan (including preview) of photos is unbelievably fast. But I was really surprised at the speed of scanning slides. A normal scan (without the use of Digital ICE correction) of 4 slides took less than 5 minutes. Compared with some of the other products I've read about it is lightning fast. 3rd Very quiet. When scanning photos, you can hardly hear. A little more noise when scanning slides, but certainly not annoying. 4th Offers three modes to choose from - Auto, Home and Professional. The car is the easiest and leads to a very good picture. Home and Professional offers a range of correction features (more with the professional mode). I am an intermediate Photoshop user and Professional mode was so close with an image editing software that I've ever seen. The scan time brakes slightly if you use these right tools, but again - no big deal). Once I get the hang, I'm sure it will accelerate the amount of time I need to Photoshop 5.
