Be more informed The new international ISO print speed standard Print speed is critically important when buying a printer or all-in-one. But how do you compare print speeds when different manufacturers measure in different ways? Now you can. Much like the "MPG" ratings on new cars, there's now a new industry standard for measuring print speed, which allows for an "apples-to-apples" comparison between different printer models and brands. The International Organization for Standardization (widely known as ISO) developed this industry approved and internationally accepted standard, specifically for ink jet printers and all-in-ones. It measures "out of the box" (default) print speeds using "real world" printing scenarios, so you can be sure you're getting a product that performs at the speed you need. Engineered for small business and home office Epson understands that small businesses develop ideas and opportunities fast — that’s why the WorkForce 500 all-in-one was built with your printing, copying, scanning and faxing needs in mind. You’ll not only appreciate its ability to print high quality documents fast, but also the convenient, built-in features that maximize productivity. Quickly fax important documents with the robust memory and speed dial storage. Use the included OCR software to turn documents into editable text and easily digitize those meeting notes. Or, use the scan-to-PDF function to share various forms and documents. The WorkForce 500 uses up to 3x less power than a laser printer2 and has built-in double-sided printing3 so you can save paper. What’s more, individual ink cartridges allow you to replace only the color that you need. And, the quick-drying formula lets you handle documents and photos right away — no drying time needed! Bottom line — the WorkForce 500 offers convenient features that will take your productivity to the next level. Never Liked All-in-One's, but I Love this Unit from Epson By givpilot I've never been a fan of All-in-One's because I always felt too much was compromised; I just wouldn't settle for a poor printer, or scanner, or copier or fax machine just for the convenience of having everything in one box. Epson has changed the playing field, however. I'm not saying Epson has merged the absolute best of each of those pieces of equipment, but they have produced a remarkably well designed and engineered product with minimal compromise. The printer is excellent, the text approaches laser quality and the copier and fax work fine, the 30 page automatic document feeder works without a hick-up -- and what a joy that is!. The scanner is fast, operates with very easy to use intuitive software and it produces excellent text and photo scans. Epson also includes OCR software with the unit.Yes, you can buy a better printer... there certainly are printers that print faster and print photos better (I have a $1,000 photo printer that I use for the "serious" stuff) but this one works fine for the everyday tasks. And there are better scanners, this one won't do negatives or slides, for example, but for most everyday scanning tasks it's absolutely fine. And as far as fax and copy machines go, the fax and copies are first rate and better than every other "home office" machine I've tried. All in all, Epson has a winner with the Workforce 500. I really only needed a new fax machine, but the price on this unit was so low I thought I might as well try it and at least I'd have a backup printer if I needed one. Despite my preconceived notions, besides being a great fax machine, it turned out to be a very good printer, scanner and copier. I guess you learn something everyday. Setup was quick and the startup guide takes you step-by-step through the process with easy to follow pictures and text. I had the unit up and running within 15 minutes on a computer using Vista Home Premium.I'm delighted with my purchase and I use it frequently for my everyday printer and scanner needs. I don't think you'll be disappointed. 52 of 54 people found the following review helpful. Best all-in-one I've tried By Susan M I don't often write product reviews, but I've been so happy with my Epson WorkForce 500 since I got it that I had to write in. I've always used Epson printers before because I think the print and photo quality is the highest I've seen. I suffered along without a feeder because Epson didn't offer an all-in-one with one, so I am thrilled with the Epson 500 because in addition to being much faster than my previous printer, it has the feeder and the fax incorporated into the printer. In the first week after getting the Epson 500, I was able to pack up the fax machine on my desk that took up lots of space and save myself a trip to Staples(and the associated expense)to have a 40-page document copied (something I never would have done on a flat-bed printer). In terms of ease of use, I find it to be relatively intuitive. I did, however, have a little trouble on setup (I did not fully read the directions!) because the OK key was not always the default button to move on to the next step. Once I read the directions, though, it was extremely simple. In summary, I couldn't be more thrilled with my purchase - it's a fabulous home office printer with every feature you could want. 40 of 42 people found the following review helpful. Nice All-In-One By H. Ongaro Very nice All-In-One. It prints beautifully; crisp, clear, & bold. The photo printer works as well as my stylus photo printer. Great detail and color to the pictures. The fax works fine. I've faxed a couple of things. One had ten pages and I'm not sure if it was this fax or the fax on the other end, but while faxing the "transmission was interrupted" so I had to refax the last few pages. The scanner works OK. I've only used it twice to copy recipes

Built-in duplex printing and copying. Auto Image Fix feature that automatically optimizes your photos. With built-in networking, everyone in the office can easily share the device. Vivid Photos and Laser-Quality Text--Fast! Canon's newly developed Pigment Reaction (PgR) ink system incorporates a higher-intensity black pigment, a clear ink, and specially formulated color pigment inks for superior results for all your prints. This unique system coats the paper with clear ink before it reaches the print head, helping the colors more effectively bond together for better saturation and brightness. And since each color comes in its own tank, you only need to replace the color that runs out, reducing waste and saving you money. Offering prints at up to 4800 x 1200 dpi color resolution, photos exhibit continuous tone and look like they are fresh from the photo lab. In addition to the PgR ink system, the printer has a print head capable of producing two-picoliter ink droplets for exacting detail. You don't have to wait long for your prints either--a 4 x 6-inch borderless print takes only about 43 seconds. When printing business documents, the MX7600 churns out prints at up to 28 pages per minute (ppm) in mono, and 23 ppm in color. Because the printer has two paper feeders, less time needs to be spent loading or changing media. With a built-in duplexer, you don't have to waste your time standing by the printer flipping sheets when you want to print on both sides. And you don't have to wait for the machine to slowly start up either; the unit is ready for use in about five seconds after power up. The printer is network-ready thanks to its built-in Ethernet connection. Just connect it to your home or office network, and your networked computers can share the printer. The printer also features a built-in memory card slot that allows you to print photos straight from a memory card without a computer. With the printer's LCD, you can look at the pictures you want printed, and with Auto Image Fix, picture quality is automatically optimized. PgR technology uses a clear ink along with pigments for the best print quality. Duplex Scanning and Copying The MX7600 features a built-in Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) that holds up to 35 sheets and enables automatic duplexing for copies and scans, leaving you free to work on other tasks while the printer does all the work. The scanner offers up to 4800 dpi resolution at a 48-bit color depth for scans that pick up even the most minute detail. And thanks to Canon's advanced copy technology, the MX7600 copies graphics and documents with faithful accuracy. High-Speed Fax The device can achieve Super G3 fax speeds (33.6 Kbps), which allows the fastest fax transfers, and it can fax both black-and-white and color pages. The device's built-in memory will store 100 coded speed dials and up to 250 incoming pages--features that are especially useful for long faxes or if you run out of paper. The Canon MX7600 All-In-One Printer is compatible with Windows (including Vista) and Macintosh operating systems. The printer measures 19.7 x 21.1 x 10.1-inches (WxHxD) and weighs 36.6 pounds. It is backed by a 1-year warranty. What's in the Box: Canon MX7600 printer, five cleaning sheets, document kit, ink tanks (PGI-7 and PGI-9), power cord, print head, telephone line cable. The MX7600 provides printing, faxing, scanning, and copying all from one device.

All functions range from adequate to very good.Pros: The scanner is very good, with an auto feeder, and scan quality is good for both documents and photos. The print speed and quality is good. Having 2 paper sources (bottom plain paper cassette, rear feeder) is a time saver. The auto-duplex printing is very handy. Fax quality is good. Auto feeding for faxes is nice, but not something I will use that much. Builtin networking, so I don't need to have a PC continuously powered up when the family laptops want to print. Photo prints have good detail and shading. Printing directly from various memory cards and cameras is easy.Cons: Photo prints colors need some tweaking. It's all a bit bright with a tendency toward a very slight pink cast. Admittedly, I have not done that many color photos as yet. Tones and shades are not as accurate as a printer with more colors. This one has 6 ink tanks, but 2 of them are shades of black, so printing must be done with 4 colors. This printer is adequate for amateur snaps, but won't replace a dedicated photo printer. No scanning of film or negatives. Printer is large but that's a given with this many functions. 43 of 44 people found the following review helpful. Not as top of the line as it should be! By Roger Sadowsky I am a very big fan of Canon printers and All-In Ones. I previously have had the MP780 and the MP830 of which I had no complaints and would have rated 4-5 stars. My complaints with the 7600 are:1) slow to print first page2) cannot use regular paper from the rear paper loader (only the cassette).3) a bit noisy before and after printing.4) ink only available onlineIf I had to buy again, I would go with the MP850. 39 of 44 people found the following review helpful. MX 7600 extremely disappointing, noisy and no ink By C. Barwis The Canon MX 7600 is very noisy. It annoyingly clicks and clacks for minutes after it is done printing, and while speed of page printing itself is OK, the printer waits for up to a minute to start printing many times. I've had the machine for 2 weeks and already it has started jamming paper every 15 sheets or so. And the ink required by the MX 7600 is not sold over the counter by any store in New York City. No stores even list the ink, so you have to buy it online. And Canon's support dept. was absolutely no help whatsoever with coming up with a solution. How can Canon launch a product and not provide the ink anywhere!I replaced a Canon MP 780 which I liked, after it wore out, with this MX 7600 and am extremely disappointed and will now try another company's products. One last inconvenience to note, unlike the Canon MP780, paper for normal use in the MX7600 cannot be loaded from the rear, but must be loaded from the front cassette which holds less paper. By diljs First off, if you're in the market for a printer, you can't go wrong with a Canon. Canon printers consistently beat out the competition in independent tests for print quality. Their items are elegant, well designed, and most importantly, ink is affordable. We all know the razor and blade scheme: sell the printer below cost and make it up with pricey cartridges. Canon, however, saves you a lot of money by including the print head with the printer and not on each cartridge. Because of this, genuine Canon cartridges can be had for around $12, while 3rd party cartridges, which many claim work just as well, can be found for as low as $2.If you've already decided on a Canon multifunction, lets see which model is right for you. Canon's current market list is as follows:MP130 - New model, and the most affordable yet. Copy/Print/Scan 18ppm black, 13ppm color 2 ink tanks No auto sheet feeder! Card slotsMP390 - Has a fax, About half the cost of the MP7xx's. Copy/Print/SCan/Fax 18ppm black, 12 ppm color 2 ink tanks card slotsMP750 - Older model - exactly the same as mp780 but no fax. Copy/Print/Scan 25ppm black, 17 ppm color 5 ink tanks Built in DuplexingMP760 - New Model - geared towards photo enthusiasts. Copy/Print/Scan + Special Photo Features 25ppm black, 17 ppm color 5 ink tanks No auto sheet feeder! Built in Duplexing *Unique photo features: 2.5 inch lcd screen Built in film adapter for 35mm slides or negatives can print directly from negatives Card slotsMP780 - Does it all except for the mp760 photo features. Copy/Print/Scan/Fax 25ppm black, 17 ppm color 5 ink tanks Built in DuplexingNow, let's look more closely at some key differences between these models:*Fax: The first thing you should do is decide if you need a fax or not. If you do, you should choose between the MP780 or the MP390. If not, don't rule those two out just yet, they may have have other features you can't live without.*Note: There is NO auto fax/telephone switching on these models if you wish to use the same line for faxes and voice calls.*Number of ink tanks: The next important thing you should look at is whether you want to be able to replace each color individually or not. The MP750, MP760 and MP780 all have 5 individual ink tanks (photo black, black, cyan, yellow, magenta), while the MP130 and MP390 have only 2 (black and tricolor). The cost of each cartridge is about the same, but you will waste some leftover ink by throwing out the MP130 or MP390's color cartridge when just one color runs out.*Photo printing: If you're planning on printing a lot of photos, you should probably go with an mp7xx. These have a superior print head, as well as the 5 separate ink tanks. The MP760 is especially noteable with all the features Canon has added specifically for photos. These come at a price however, as the MP760 does not share the auto sheet feeder of its MP750 and MP780 cousins, or the fax of the 780.*However - If you plan on printing directly from memory cards, beware! The mp750 and mp780 do not have card slots! The 2 cheaper models and the mp760 do.*Auto sheet feeder: The mp130 and mp760 do NOT have an auto sheet feeder. All 3 of the others do. An auto sheet feeder is very useful when doing a lot of scanning or faxing.*Duplexing: The mp7xx models each have built in duplexing.*Size: The mp7xx models weigh around 30 pounds and are quite big. The MP390 is a smaller, and weighs 18 pounds. The mp130 has a tiny footprint for a multifunction printer, and weighs 14 pounds. Some features that all of Canon's current MFPs share:*Copying: Each of these models has a copy function, and all have the same resolution (600x600 black, 1200x1200 color).*USB 2.0 connection*Pictbridge direct photo printing support*All 5 models are great looking and will complement almost any decor. My recommendations:If you want a great price on an excellent printer and

Dent I thought I would make what is normally the conclusion the beginning section because not everyone may have the time or the disposition to go through all these paragraphs unless actually interested in making a purchase. I am providing more detail that should support my conclusions AFTER the evaluation section.Evaluation----------This is, esentially, the HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-In-One Printer with an extra paper tray, 3 extra ink cartridges and some promo materials. The unit I reviewed did not have the extra paper tray. The reviewed unit meets the claim of it being a all-in-one solution. While it is not likely that any individual user would take advantage of all its features on a regular basis, it is reassuring to know that the features are there. The supplied software and the printer's own console interface allow for a tremenduous amount of flexibility and customization. Some of the more advanced features will require an above-average level of computer expertise but, even without a lot of customization, this will be a useful, worthy printing/faxing/copying/scanning appliance. While the superior quality of output would make this printer a good 'small office' candidate, its speed would probably disqualify it if the small office was doing any significant amount printing. I provided some personal benchmarks so that any prospective small business buyer could decide. As a 'home' printer, this comes as close to perfect as they come. I will be using it as a home printer so please do interpret my rating within that context.A minor observation regarding 'design'. I found it interesting that some of the functions available on the touch screen are duplicated on physical buttons on the printer's console. This was striking because I actually saw this model for sale at New York's Fifth Ave. Apple store. It immediately occured to me that an Apple designer would have none of those buttons if allowed to redesign the product. This is not criticism, it's only an observation, also prompted by the fact that, for example, when specifying the number of copies to be printed, I could NOT use the physical number pad but had to punch the number on the virtual keypad displayed on the touch screen. The strong, almost violent shaking the printer brings itself to when not on a perfectly steady surface was a little disturbing to me. I have little doubt that, if improperly placed, the printer would quickly lose its printheads alignment and it might even experience other technical trouble. Finally, I am happy that the HP Tech support solved my Vista-related problem but it would have been better if a printer that was manufatured only a few days before I received it had an updated CD or, at least, a flyer advising Vista users how to obtain the updated driver.Considering all of the above, the this printer gets a strong, very positive 4 stars. However, my view is that the OfficeJet Pro is basically a 'home' or 'home office' unit, not a 'small business' printer. As such, I see no advantage in purchasing the Premier' model instead of the 'one paper tray', less expensive version._______________________________________________________________________________First impressions-----------------The HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-In-One Printer integrates print, copy, fax, scan document and photo-processing functions. HP supplies the printer itself, 'starter' ink cartridges, print heads and a phone wire. Ethernet or USB cables are not included. Thin manuals are provided for wireless and FAX setup. A quick installation poster is provided as well. The full 300+ manual can be downloaded from the HP site. The CD has drivers for the several supported Operating Systems and a number of additional applications such as OCR (optical character recognition).Besides the Ethernet and USB ports, other physical IO include 2 telephone jacks in

Canon PIXMA MP800 All In One Photo Printer

Canon PIXMA MP800 All In One Photo Printer

Brand: Canon Model: 0581B002 Dimensions: 9.50" h x 19.30" w x 18.60" l, 26.40 pounds Print resolutions up to 9,600 x 2,400 dpi color and 600 x 600 dpi black Optical scan resolution of 2,400 x 4,800 dpi Print and copy at speeds up to 30 ppm black and 24 ppm color Preview images on 3.5" digital screen One-year warranty

The advanced PIXMA MP800 Photo All-In-One delivers spectacular Print Copy-Scan performance. It produces an amazing resolution of up to 9,600 x 2,400 color dpi, for remarkable detail and clarity. To achieve this, Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses a next-generation 3,584-nozzle print head that ejects precise, consistent droplets as small as one picoliter. The result? Smoother, virtually grain-free images. Also, our ContrastPLUS five-color ink system--four dye-based inks and a pigment-based black ink--produces true-life photos with a wide color palette, along with laser-quality text. What about speed? A 4"x 6" photo lab quality borderless photo takes approximately 36 seconds. When copying, the AE (Auto Exposure) Copy feature automatically optimizes reproduction quality based on the type of original you're duplicating. The convenient Photo/Film buttons allow you to make reprints of your photos and 35mm film without using your computer. And now, scanning: The unit's higher-resolution CCD technology enables you to produce exceptional 2,400-dpi scans, with vibrant 48-bit color depth. You can simultaneously scan up to six frames of 35mm film (negatives or positives), or up to four mounted slides. Plus, advanced paper handling features are built in - such as two paper trays and two-sided printing. Want to evaluate and enhance your images before printing? Just insert your compatible memory card into one of the built-in card slots, then select the images on the extra-large 3.5" LCD color viewer. As needed, images will be automatically enhanced for red eye, sharpness and brightness values, or you can fine tune the images yourself using the easy control panel. Then, print directly from the memory card! As an option, you can print directly from a PictBridge-ready device such as a digital camera. Cumming I purchased the mp800 to replace my Lexmark X-85 "INK GOBBLER" because I got tired of not being able to refill the ink successfully and paying through the nose for replacement ink cartridges. The Lex X-85 was over three years old and I was ready for a better printer that new technology had to offer.I am very pleased with the MP800. It's printing quality and speed is excellent for this caliber of printer. Most of the photos I have printed are on "Jet Print" professional photo paper which has worked well. I have yet to purchase some Canon Photo Paper Pro and try it. I did however print one 4x6 photo from the included pack of Canon Photo Paper Pro that came with the printer. The photo quality was amazing!Regarding the refilling of the ink cartridges: I purchased the 5 ink refill kit from re-inks.com for $60.00. the kit has enough ink for about 12 refills of per cartridge. The printer is smart enough to know that you are using refilled ink cartridges but it allows you to continue with a warning that Canon may not be responsible for damage.once you get past the warning the printer asks you to press the stop/reset button for 5 seconds and the printer will continue to print using the refilled cartridge but when you view the Ink Status Monitor it shows the ink tank level as empty. So in the future you will have to manually remove the cartridge to view it's ink quality. This is easy to do because Canon's ink tanks are Clear Plastic! This simple reset procedure is required each time the printer detects a refilled cartridge. I suspect that once all 5 cartridges have been "released" from ink detection, it might not ask you again to go through the reset process again. I haven't got there yet. Thanks canon for leaving the Ink Refill Door Open! Hope this info helps. Scott 101 of 103 people found the following review helpful. Very Good! By Mark Mcneil Excelent photo print speed and quality. Dual paper feed a plus, no need to remove paper from feed tray when printing photos and envelopes, just load the second feed source. Software easy and seems very Windows compatable unlike some others. Ink tank system very smart, no need to buy expensive cartridges with built-in print heads and the five seperate ink tank allows replacement of individual color. Recommend original Canon ink, read PCWorld.com (Cheap Ink Probed) article. 56 of 57 people found the following review helpful. Good quality of photo printing By T. Chen Good quality photo printing, good copy quality.Double side print is a plusGood scan results.Good price.Photo printing works well with Kodak and Canon photo paper,it doesn't work well with HP photo paper, save your money byusing Kodak or Canon photo paper if you have this printer.Don't use it with HP photo paper. The ink cartridges are kind of expensive, they have chips on thecartridges to check the ink levels and detect if the cartridges are been refilled or not.I refilled my color cartridges and the printer detected the changes in the ink level and warned me that the ink cartridges are not original and could harm the printer, but I decided to use the refilled ink cartridges. And it still works very well in terms of color precision and quality for more than 6 months.I think it's just a new way that printer manufactures try to scare comsumers to use refilled cartridges.Since ink cartridges are bigger revenues than the printers. Each refill for a cartirdge is about 30 cents compare to original cartridge price 12 to 16 dollars. I am a heavy printing user, in about a year, the money I saved will be worth a new printer. See all 83 customer reviews...

The software is a dream compared to the HP2150 I returned in order to get this. I got the HP because it had built in wireless/ethernet print server and a fax. But the software bundle is all or nothing, they didn't separate out the printer driver...so anyone who wants to just print on the thing must first install 1.5gb (thats GIGabytes) of crap the infects your registry like a cancer. This Epson RX600's software is a dream. They separated everything! Just want to print occasional black and white like me, driver is just 8mb. Want everything and do photo touchups and crazy things and photo albums and scan (like my wife) - just put in the cd and add what you want one app at a time. That's why we went with this printer and returned the HP. Also, one more plus is that the RX600 scans old negatives and can print them perfectly or digitize them for you forever - the HP can't. I LOVE this feature (and yes, it's a combo of mechanical and software differences that achieve this, I dare you to try on another machine). I do miss the HP's built in print server. I bought a Linksys Wireless-G for USB2.0, and it won't work with this printer. Epson wrote me back and confirmed this. This is why I docked this review by a star. You MUST be able to run your printers from a print server. My 4 year old HPLaserJet3150 hooked up no problem, but my new Epson fails? That sucks, and if my wife didn't love this so much, I would send it back strictly for that reason. I do like how it's USB 2.0, it is fast. Separate color tanks (...)are sweet, not like HP where if blue runs out, you're forced to buy all other colors again. This has 6 color tanks all independently replaceable. Nice.PROS: USB2.0, individual color tanks, scan negatives,LCD screen, front loading usb input for cameras, built in card reader on the front, great b/w quality, killer photo print quality, minimal/incremental/customizable software/driver install (extremely flexible and lightweight)CONS: doesn't work w/ LinkSys print servers 73 of 76 people found the following review helpful. Epson RX600 - A standalone photo lab in a box! By A Customer I have had my RX600 for a couple of weeks now, and think it is amazing. WITHOUT USING A COMPUTER, you can copy B&W or color documents that look fine and come out pretty soon after you push the button. However, when printing PHOTOS, this thing is LOTS better than Kodak's printing system in drug stores. It reads virtually any memory card. It reads cameras, CD's, and hard drives via USB on front. It scans color slides, negatives, B&W negatives and makes FANTASTICALLY RICH prints from them. With the tilting color LCD on the front you can crop and zoom photos before printing. It can scan or copy to CD's, memory cards, USB flash, etc, using its front USB port. Also has a Bluetooth adapter option that plugs in the same USB port.Amazing feature: Print thumbnail preview sheets and blacken circles under pictures you want. Stick these sheets in the scanner and it prints out only your choices! Naturally it's a great computer printer and scanner. You want to fax? Use it with your computer's modem. 67 of 73 people found the following review helpful. Quality all in one device! By 6229er There are hundreds of products I could (or should) have reviewed. Some good, some bad. This is the first one I have ever felt strongly enough to comment on.Being in the IT field I have always been skeptical of "all in one devices". However, after doing some research this is typical of those devicesPros:(1) It's photocopier - plain and simple. With or without the PC. Color, BW, enlarge, reduce, zoom - all the features of regular coper.(2) Digital camera support - memory card or USB cable. Images can be viewed and printed directly - again, without a PC(3) Ease of setup. Very easy to follow directions. Step by step. It works as advertised

Patterson I have now been using this printer/scanner for over two weeks. This replaces an old HP multifunction device which had problems with my Mac when printing over the network.I work from home and have several computers running, Vista, XP and OSX and wanted them to share a printer/scanner. I must admit the driver setup is not the cleanest, and I needed to download versions newer than on the supplied disk to enable printing from 64bit applications on the mac. The only setup I got stuck on was that it is not clear that you need to have the printer connected by USB to create the initial connection to a secure wi-fi network. Now that its up an running it works a dream enabling me to print and scan from any computer anywhere in the house. The scanning is decent (I don't have a huge quality need, but I can't complain about anything I've scanned), the printing is stunning. Colors are accurate for photos and the double sided printing is a great paper saver for general printing. The only things which I feel could improve this device, for my purposes, are a document feeder for bulk scanning and a built in fax capability. 62 of 62 people found the following review helpful. Well worth the price! By Chris Before I had this printer I purchased a Kodak All-in-one. The one that advertises lab quality prints at half the price. It worked really well the first month of having it. After that I have never been more frustrated with an electronic device. It's main issues were a design flaw in the print head, noisy operation, inks didn't last very long, paper feed problems, bad software, and it wouldn't let me print photos on anything other than kodak paper. So after replacing the print head three times I called it quits and decided I wanted something I could count on. Enter the Canon MP980. This printer was twice as expensive as the kodak, but worth every penny. The prints are AMAZING, and 4x6 Photos print faster than any printer I've ever used. There is also a dedicated Gray Ink cartridge allowing for true gray scale/Black & White photo prints. Printing is completely effortless. Everything just works. Setup was a breeze. I can replace each ink individually (not that I've had to yet). It has all the basic features like multi flash memory card reader, pic bridge, separate try for regular paper and photo paper, double sided printing and then some advanced features. Such as "quiet" mode. Optional blue-tooth, and built in Wi-Fi. BIG LCD. Connecting wirelessly is made easy. The scanner is fully functional and in addition to doing all the basics, it will do film and negatives as well. It also features LED's so there is no "warm up" time. Although a message will show up saying to stand by for the scanner to warm up but it's only for about 1 second. Things I thought are a nice touch. The standard paper tray slides inside the printer. When in a Standby mode, all the trays and openings to the printer are closed. When you execute a print, the door where the paper exits, opens automatically. There is no worry of things inside the printer getting dusty. The software bundled with the printer is really nice, straight forward, and works well. So far, no problems. I couldn't be happier with this amazing machine.Of course nothing is perfect. I thought it might be neat to print directly on DVD's like some other printers do, not with this one. It's largest borderless photo print is only 8.5" x 11". When turned on for the first time of the day, it goes through a priming routine where it gets the ink tanks and print head ready (I'm assuming). The process could take up to a minute. My biggest gripe is that the photo paper try loads from the rear. When you want to print from specialty paper you have to pull open the tray. It doesn't store paper inside like the standard paper tray. So when you want to print photos, you have to open

By Method2Madness "Alex" Before I start, I just want to emphasize that I have been in the IT industry for about 15 years and consider myself to be pretty knowledgeable about PC and PC peripherals. This DOESNT mean that I'm infallible, just simply that I know what to look for in a device. Now onto the review...It was time to replace my tired HP Photosmart 7260, although still working and doing a great job, I may add, I wanted something, well.... different. So, I decided to delve into the AIO(All In One) category. I initally started with an open box HP 2355 from Sears and was initally pleased as punch. Decent print speeds, wonderful photo and text output and an awe-inspiring design. However my happiness was short-lived. Apparently there was a reason it was an "open box" and priced so cheap. It was defective. Continuous banding, horrible color output after sitting a few hours, etc. So, much to my dismay I took it back and decided to stick with my PS 7260 until I could afford a high-end AIO. Well the time came to purchase and I shopped around, read numerous reviews and finally picked up an Epson AIO cx6600. For those of you who havent tried this printer, its MORE than worth the money!!! Excellent speed, nice look and good print quality. All out of a 4 ink tank system! However, I just could not settle with this device(Nothing really wrong with this AIO except that I could not settle for the 4 color pigmanet-based print engine) and decided to return the 6600 in favor of the 6 color, dye-based RX620. I'm glad I did. Heres why:1.) Print speeds seem to be on par with the cx6600 (Which has decently high ratings for speed).2.) Photo quality is among the best I have EVER seen. This AIO is on par with the high dollar, 8 color dedicated photo printers. With Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper and a high-resolution image(i.e 4-5 MP high-end camera), you almost have to have a microscope to detect ANY dithering or banding. I have printed everything from 4x6 prints up to 8.5x11 and continue to be blown away by the quality. And I have a VERY keen eye for imperfections!!!3.) Contrary to some reviews, text DOES appear sharp and crisp. Print speeds arent super-fast, but will suffice for most applications.4.) Copy and scan quality are among the best Ive seen from an AIO. This is probably attributed to the excellent print engine and over the top scanner. I copied an older film photo on the photo setting(NOT best photo) and could not believe my eyes. The printer has the ability to restore old photos and I'm here to tell you...IT WORKS!! An adapter is included to scan negatives and slides as well, which I have not had a chance to play with as of yet.5.) Setup and operation are a breeze! Even printing sans computer could not be easier. The full-color LCD is very informative and easy to use!6.) Bonus features! You can even scan directly to a memory card, or backup to a Jump Drive/CD-RW directly connected to the printer!!7.) Its relatively quiet! Much quieter than most of the HP's that I have used.Everyone complains about the lack of a fax, but I do NOT see this as a fault! It is designed to be a home-based photo center. You CAN scan to fax with the included software, however and I found it to work as advertised.CONS:All in all, I have a hard time finding faults in this AIO and I'm REALLY looking. But there are a few irritations(Not really faults)1.) The USB cable is attached to the machine from INSIDE the lid. You have to raise the lid to install the cable, which is fed to the back via a path notched out. Kind of crazy, but not a big problem.2.) Epson thought it to be a good idea to put a product sticker on the top, which almost covers the entire lid. This includes the shiny black oval/oblong area that gives the RX620 a handsome look. When the sticker is removed, residue is left on the shiny part and is ridiculously difficult to remove.

Williamson I am an amateur photographer and a professional Software Engineer. I purchased this printer as a general purpose printer and as a low cost photo printer. My home network which consists of 5 Windows XP computers and 1 Mac OS X computer (mine). I connected the printer to my network using the built in ethernet port. All of the testing I performed was over the network and I never tried the USB port. The printer does everything it advertises and does it well. I tested printing, scanning, and card reader functionality using OS X Tiger, OS X Leopard, Windows XP, and the printer worked flawlessly regardless of the OS I was using. You just need to make sure that you download and install the latest and greatest driver for the particular OS you are using. I also tried scanning directly using Photoshop CS3 on OS X Leopard and everything worked perfect. One of the reasons I purchased the MP970 was for low cost photo printing. I also own an Epson R2400 which is a semi-professional dedicated photo printer. The R2400 is expensive to purchase, and expensive to operate. I was curious how the MP970 photo quality would compare to the R2400 so I directly compared photos printed on the Canon MP970 to the same photos printed on the Epson R2400. The Canon MP970 prints great pictures, but it is simply does not produce the same quality pictures as the R2400. I printed pictures from Photoshop in a color managed environment using Ilford Smooth Pearl Photo Paper and compared the R2400 to the MP970. The Canon MP970 did very well but Epson R2400 was definitely the winner - which was the expected result. The Epson had better highlights, better shadows, and more neutral mid tones. Notwithstanding, the MP970 produced very respectable prints which would be acceptable in all but the most demanding applications. The bottom line is that if you are really serious about excellent photo quality, this is not the printer for you. If you want a low cost way to produce very respectable prints, this printer is definitely for you. I feel that the Canon MP970 fully meets or exceeds my quality expectations for a low cost photo printer. And, as an added bonus, the MP970 is way cheaper to operate than my R2400 because it uses a lot less ink. As an example of how I use it, it's a lot more cost effective to print 25 Christmas cards on my MP970 than it is to print the same 25 cards on the R2400.I only gave the printer 4 stars because it powers itself off every 2 to 4 days for no reason. Canon technical support confirmed that the printer should not power itself off and sent me a new replacement printer under warranty. Unfortunately, the replacement printer also powers itself off for no reason. I tried several different electrical outlets in my office and it did not fix the problem. Also, no other devices in my office power themselves off. This review has been here for a while now and several people posted comments and said that their MP970 printers also intermittently power off.Update on Intermittent Power off Issue:After about 9 months of operation, I ended up moving the printer from my office to my Son's room (for unrelated reasons). For unexplained reasons, the printer stopped intermittently powering itself off after I moved it to my Son's room. The printer has been in my Son's room for roughly 3 months now and it has not powered itself off once. Weird.I have had the printer for roughly 1 year and I have not had any problems except for the power issue mentioned above. Here is what the printer does:- Double sided printing- Ethernet connectivity- USB Connectivity- Initiate a scan from the printer or the computer- Scan to the disk on your computer, scan to email, scan to PDF- Copy- Read camera memory cards. Access the cards via network or USB- Scanner is compatible with Photoshop CS3 on OS X- Compatible with OS X Tiger, OS X

Zogby Recently upgraded to MS Vista and almost at the same time, ran out of ink on my two HP printers, one for pictures and an older All in One. The L7580 had just been released and I was particularly interested in its ability to print using less ink at a resultant cost savings over my two existing printers. When I got it and printed out the test page, I jumped because of the speed at which the page kicked out. I had to use this with a temporary HP print driver on my Vista machine, but the full Vista driver is now available. Installed the new driver (all 360 Mbytes) without any problems. I am happy with all its features. Have not had any problems with this since I took it out of the package. The front display shows the status of your ink cartridges which is helpful. Also, the ink cartridges now all use the same number on the package so you can easily find replacement cartridges without having to remember multiple numbers. Picture and scanner quality is excellent for my standards and needs. It comes with a slot to insert memory cards, but since I use Photoshop to prepare my pictures, I have never used this feature on this system. If this is important, then the larger display of the next model up would be desirable. Four stars means I am very happy with this printer. I would consider five stars if I was more of an aficianado of the various printers out there and could speak more knowledgeably about other models. 39 of 41 people found the following review helpful. Big waste of time - great printer for the competition By R Green After spending a day and a half with technical support, I returned the printer and purchased a Canon MP530. Here are some of my suggestions:1. If you end up buying one and need to call tech support, try to get the Canadian call center - they are helpful and my multiple hours on the phone was as pleasant as could be2. Not all the features in the manual are available on all models. the digital file cabinet for example is only available on the very high end one. note to HP: spend a couple of extra dollars and either print separate manuals or at least spell out which features are available on which models. And it's not like they chopped down trees to print the manual. it's a digital file yet they didn't take the couple of hours that it might have taken to customize the manual.3. the software is the worse i've seen. It never installed correctly and HP took me through a full hour of manually uninstalling the many different parts to re-install. waste of time as I never could get the printer to be recognized the second time4. I set up the canon mp530 in 30 minutes earlier today and I've been smiling ever since.5. And before the hp people discount this review as someone not technically astute, my primary business for ten years was digital printing and pre-press. I've been part of the industry for many many years. 38 of 42 people found the following review helpful. This thing just won't install correctly By G. Zichermann Bought the 7530 in all its overpackaged glory today. Brought it home and began the arduous process of setting it up (30 mins of labor just installing ink/paper/print heads). After bringing it online, it began its self-test and installation routine. During the install, the printer gave me 3 paper jam errors (there were no paper jams) and failed to initialize.I then called HP support where I was routed to an Indian call center and put on hold for 33.5 minutes without talking to anyone knowledgeable. Three further calls to support resulted in misrouted queue requests ("Your product appears to be out of warranty"), until I finally reached Chris. Chris had absolutely zero insight or valuable assistance to offer me in setting up this printer.Let me be clear - I'm a very experienced technology CEO - and am really comfortable setting up devices like printers. But companies
