Obviously the quality is directly tied to the quality of the original image. Good negatives have resulted iin good scans for me. And tools are available to tweek the image and make improvements. I am not a PC Scanner photoshop pro, but the controls and instructions are very intuitive. I recommend that you make a purchase of additional slide/film trays to speed the scanning process. I am pleased with the outcomes of this fine product. 11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. ION Slides2PC By JMAC Originally bought for family member and then borrowed to do my slides. Did more than 1300 slides between the two of us before the lamp started to fail so bought another ION for family member and bought SVP FS1000 for myself. ION is easy to set-up in both Windows XP and Vista. The slide tray is a little flimsy so need to be careful not to break it. The included PhotoImpressions S/W is very useful for adjusting brightness/contrast, airbrushing defects and cropping pictures. There's a learning curve for doing scans but after a bit it becomes fairly easy but tedious. (Review by James in WA State) 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. tempermental By Charles The slide holder is flimsy and difficult to work with. Properly positioning slides is difficult. Positioning the slide carrier is tedious. I often get a pinkish shading which seems to have been corrected by frequent calibration. Scans can take 1/2 minute or longer to capture the image and often fails entirely. Closing and reopening software is frequently necessary as is rebooting the computer. Charles.
